Gearing Up for Little League: What Your Player Needs

Getting your child ready for their first Little League season? You're in the right place! This guide will breakdown everything your young baseball or softball star needs to hit the field with confidence. Listed you will also see which eqipment is reuired and who shall provide the equipment. 

Fielder's Equipment

Sliding Glove A protective glove, often called an "oven mitt", worn on the hand(s) while running bases. Head first sliding is only allowed in Junior League Player Optional

Catcher's Equipment

Note: Northwest Little League provides each team a set of catcher's gear, which includes the mask, chest protector, and shin guards. Players may use this gear, or purchase their own. All Catcher's equipment is required unless otherwise noted.

Catcher's Mask Protective helmet with face mask Only one-piece helmet and mask. Skull caps with removeable masks are NOT allowed
Dangling Throat Protector Protection for the neck and throat, connected to the face mask to dangle. Required even on hockey style masks.
Chest Protector Protection for the shoulders, chest, groin No special requirements for player-provided equipment
Shin guards Protection for the knees, shins, ankles No special requirements for player-provided equipment
Catcher's Mitt Baseball or Softball catcher's mitt, to be worn on the non-throwing hand. PLAYER PROVIDED. Players must use a catcher's mitt, not a fielder's glove, when playing this position. Player must use catcher's mitt, not a fielder's glove, when playing this position.
Athletic Cup Hard plastic protection for groin PLAYER PROVIDED.
